Boat Manufacturing: Reverse Engineer Yacht Mold

The engineering firm for Wendon Yachts was tasked with a project to reverse engineer a 70ft yacht superstructure mold and increase its length to 80-feet. By using the Faro Laser Tracker we were able to generate a point cloud so that they could make a 3D model and then use a 5–Axis CNC Gantry to machine a new section of the mold, saving about 3-months of manual lofting and construction. The Laser

Tracker was mounted at the aft position measuring points on the mold at taped stations to create a point cloud of symmetrical data.

Case Study: Align and Calibrate Sawmill Robotics

Five years ago we were asked by Resource Saver Industries (RSI) to help align and calibrate the new concept robotic sawmill equipment that they had designed and built for Roseburg Forest Products.

The equipment was designed to increase the recovery rate, minimize the amount of waste per log, and still produce at the highest speeds possible. It used pivoting robotic arms to move logs to the next process, and Morley was asked to provide precise measurements of the pivot points. [read entire article ]
